CHRISTUS Health celebrates milestone of 10,000 robotic-assisted surgeries

CHRISTUS Health has reached a significant achievement in surgical care, completing 10,000 robotic-assisted surgery cases at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas - St. Elizabeth, reflecting more than a decade of investment in advanced surgical technology and innovation.

“Reaching 10,000 robotic-assisted surgery cases is an incredible milestone reflecting the dedication, skill and collaboration of our surgeons, nurses and surgical teams,” said Dr. Kevin Dean, general surgeon for CHRISTUS Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth. “More importantly, it represents thousands of patients who have benefited from advanced surgical care right here in Southeast Texas.”

CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System launched its robotic surgery program in 2013 and has continued to invest in the latest surgical technology expanding its capabilities to provide advanced minimally invasive care.

“As robotic surgery technology has evolved, we have continued to invest in tools that help us provide the safest, most effective care possible,” Dean said. “The system builds on an already strong robotic surgery program by giving our surgeons enhanced capabilities that support precision and consistency during procedures.”

Robotic-assisted surgery offers several potential benefits to patients, including smaller incisions, reduced pain, shorter hospital stays, faster recovery times and less scarring compared to traditional open surgical procedures.

“One of the most exciting aspects of robotic surgery is its ability to support learning and continuous improvement,” said Dr. Dar Kavouspour, general surgeon for CHRISTUS Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth. “The robot has enhanced data and recording capabilities, creating valuable opportunities for collaboration, education and the ongoing refinement of surgical techniques.”

Robotic systems are used for minimally invasive surgery across a variety of specialties, including general surgery, urology, gynecology and thoracic surgery.

“This milestone is not the finish line,” Kavouspour said. “It is a foundation for continued growth.
